Spriggans in different-level areas will drop different fancy eggs, but all drop the colored eggs. The ones in level 10 areas drop archon eggs, level 20 areas colored archon eggs, level 30 areas painted archon eggs and the final area darkened archon eggs.

The spriggans can be found here and there in open and sparse areas as well as within caves, in all the areas listed. The location listed might be inaccurate, the spriggans seem to move location from time to time.
For a level 50 player none of them provide any kind of challenge at all, although if you're in the 30s or even below you might run into some difficulties. The spriggans have a tendency to run away when damaged, and if they decide to do it many times in a row instead of executing a fighting action, you will have a lot of running ahead of you. If hunting spriggans in higher-level areas on lower-level classes, always bring friends to ensure you can kill at least some.

Another difficulty that might present itself is the location of the spriggans. All of the highest-level locations (spriggans bearing darkened archon eggs) come with danger of aggro even to level 50s, and while at that level the aggro doesn't present a problem, it likely cannot be handled well on any class much lower than that. If you have no level 50 class, it might be for the best to substitute at least the darkened egg for a motley egg.

Strategy

This quest is very simple once you know what you're doing. Once you've signed up in one of the cities (or even before it), you head out to hunt for the various spriggans. These spriggans will drop eggs for you to trade for the various rewards available. Note that the fancy eggs that the spriggans drop vary by location, and you need several of them to get all the rings.
Another way to get eggs is to talk to the quest-givers, you can get one random egg per 18 Earth hours. With the amounts of eggs needed for the rewards, it is not recommended to rely solely on this method.

The spriggans drop solely colored and fancy eggs, the odd eggs and motley eggs are procured differently. Motley egg is from a spriggan NPC located in the area right outside the city in each of the three city-states. You can gain more than one motley egg this way, but to gain another you must have used up your previous one and an undeterminable amount of time must have passed. The locations of these spriggans are below.

Spriggan Area Location
Twiggy Bentbranch (29,30) on the road connecting the two Gridanian gates
Iggy Bearded Rock (25,34) on a bridge leading south to Oschon's Torch
Ziggy Black Brush west of camp almost on the road

Odd eggs are gained by trading certain combinations of other eggs to the quest giver. The odd egg combinations and all other reward combinations are listed below. You can also get odd eggs by trading the egg cap combination should you already have its corresponding cap in your inventory.

Reward Fancy Egg Colored Eggs
Pristine Egg Ring Archon 3 Red, 2 Yellow
(daily prize 1) (any) 3 (color a), 2 (color b)
Vibrant Egg Ring Colored 2 Red, 1 Blue, 1 Green, 1 Yellow
Odd Egg (any) 2 (color a), 1 (color b), 1 (color c), 1 (color d)
Brilliant Egg Ring Painted 3 Blue, 1 Yellow, 1 Violet
(daily prize 2) (any) 3 (color a), 1 (color b), 1 (color c)
Midnight Egg Ring Darkened 2 Red, 2 Violet, 1 Green
(daily prize 3) (any) 2 (color a), 2 (color b), 1 (color c)
Egg cap (any) 1 Blue, 1 Green, 1 Red, 1 Yellow, 1 Violet

The last reward, the chocobo egg ring, is obtained differently. You have to acquire no less than three odd eggs and place them in the hatching pot close by. Once you've done that, simply talk to the quest-giver's assistant to receive your last ring.

Script

Find the Eggs (Gridania)

Jihli Aliapoh: Greetings, traveler. Have you come to joint eh Hatching-tide festivities? Gathering and decorating eggs can be a welcome respite from the travails of the adventuring life.
Perhaps you remember the prophecy?
A darkness draws nigh, and with it a storm,♪
To the eggs which bear hope, that true hearts must warm.♪
Fortune alights on the shoulders of those♪
Who gather the eggs that Heaven bestows!♪

But! All our eggs have been stolen, every last one, and that spells trouble for Hatching-tide. We're certain it's the work of the spriggans. Brave adventurer, won't you render us aid, recover our colorful eggs, and make the festival a success?
(quest accept)
Jihli Aliapoh: The spriggans who stole the eggs have been spotted here, there, and just about everywhere. I do hope you find the pests and recover our beautiful eggs.

(What would you like to know? What kinds of decorated eggs are there?)
Jihli Aliapoh: Well, there are two types of decorated eggs. We have fancy ones, with beautiful patterns and decorations, and plainer types, that are just painted one color.
There are four of the fancier type. We call them the Archon egg, colored Archon egg, painted Archon egg, and darkened Archon egg.
The ones that are painted in a single color are named for that color - obviously! So we have red, blue, yellow, violet and green Archon eggs. Five in total.
(how many eggs go in a set?)
Jihli Aliapoh: You're supposed to bring the eggs in sets - it's a Hatching-tide tradition. Each set has one fancy egg and five colored eggs. That's six in total, in case you aren't keeping track.
By way of thanks, we'd be thrilled to give you a special gift. And the best bit is, the gift depends on what combination of eggs you deliver!
For example - and I'm telling you this because I like you and think you have the makings of an excellent egg hunter - you could bring back a fanc Archon egg, plus two yellow and three red Archon eggs, and we'll give you a pristine egg ring in return!
(How do I find the decorated eggs?)
Jihli Aliapoh: Those wicked spriggans are the ones who stole the eggs. If I could get my hands on the little pests, I would - oh, but what's the point? I wouldn't know where to find them in the first place. Although, I think Diggy over there does!
Of course, we're still making eggs even though the first batch was stolen, but we don't have enough, not by a long way!
…but here, I can spare you one. Maybe this will help you put together a wonderful set!

Find the Eggs (Limsa)

Motte: Welcome! It is Hatching-tide here in Limsa Lominsa, and the good people of the town celebrate by creating beautiful decorated eggs.
Perhaps you remember the prophecy? A darkness draws nigh, and with it a storm,♪
To the eggs which bear hope, that true hearts must warm.♪
Fortune alights on the shoulders of those♪
Who gather the eggs that Heaven bestows!♪

But sadly, this year a dark shadow has been cast over the festivities - all our lovely eggs have been stolen! Oh, and I know exactly who the culprits are, don't tell me I don't! Perhaps, brave adventurer, you might hunt down some spriggans, recover our colorful eggs, and make the festival a success?
(quest accept)
Motte: The spriggans who stole the eggs have been spotted all over the place! You must track them down and recover our eggs - and I don't mind if those spriggans are taught a lesson along the way!

(What would you like to know? What kinds of decorated eggs are there?)
Motte: Well, there are two types of decorated eggs. We have fancy ones with beautiful patterns and decorations, and plainer types that are painted in just one color.
There are four of the fancier type. We call them the Archon egg, colored Archon egg, painted Archon egg, and darkened Archon egg.
The ones that are painted in a single color are named for the color - I'm sure you'll understand why - and so we have red, blue, yellow, violet, and green Archon eggs. Five in total.
(How many eggs go in a set?)
Motte: So, Hatching-tide tradition says that you need to bring us the eggs in sets. Each set has one fancy egg and five colored eggs. That's six eggs in total, in case you aren't keeping track.
And in return, we'll be thrilled to give you a special gift depending on what combination of eggs you deliver!
For example - and this is useful, so listen closely - you could bring back a fancy Arhcon egg, plus two yellow and three red Archon eggs, and we'd give you a pristine eegg in in return!
(How do I find the decorated eggs?)
Motte: Those wicked spriggans are the ones that stole the eggs. I tell you if I could get my hands on those little pests, I would - oh but does it matter? I wouldn't know where to find them in the first place. Although, I think Wiggy over there does!
Oh, of course we kept making eggs after the first batch was stolen, but we still don't have enough, not by a long way!
…But here, I can spare this one. Maybe it will help you put together a wonderful set.

Find the Eggs (Ul'dah)

Kikina: Greetings, fair traveler! Do you like decorating eggs as much as I? I'm sure you do!
You know the prophecy, I'm sure.
A darkness draws nigh, and with it a storm,♪
To the eggs which bear hope, that true hearts must warm.♪
Fortune alights ont he shoulders of those♪
Who gather the eggs that Heaven bestows!♪

But, Haching-tide just isn't he same this year. Would you believe, wicked spriggans have made off with all the eggs wew decorated!? I don't know the first thing about lookign for spriggans, let alone stealing an egg back from one!
(quest accept)
Kikina: Those wicked spriggans have been spotted all over the place. If you see one, I want you to grab it by the ankles and shake him over something soft until the rotten creature surrendres every last egg it stole!

(What would you like to know? What kidns of eggs are there?)
Kikina: Well, there are two types of decorated eggs. We have fancy ones with beautiful patterns and decorations, and plainer types that are painted in just one color.
There are four of the more elaborate kind. We call them the Archon egg, colored Archon egg, painted Archon egg, and darkened Archon egg.
Then we have the ones that are painted in a single color. They are the red, blue, yellow, violet, and green Archon eggs. Five in total.
(How many eggs go in a set?)
Kikina: Now, according to Hatching-tide tradition, you're supposed to bring the eggs in sets. Each set has one fancy egg and five colored eggs. That's six in total, right?
In return, we promise to give you a special present. And just to make it interesting, the present will change depending on what combination of eggs you deliver!
For example - and I'm telling you this because I really want you to find and punish as many of those rotten spriggans as you can - you could bring back a fancy Archon egg, plus two yellow and three red Archon eggs, and we'd give you a pristine egg ring in return!
(How do I find the decorated eggs?)
Kikina: Oooh, if I could get my hands on those little spriggan pests, I would - welll, I'm not sure what I'd do, exactly, but not anything nice! But as I said, I woudln't know where to find them - although I'm sure Figgy over there does!
Of course, we kept making eggs even after the first ones were stolen, but we still don't have enough, not by a long way!
…But I think I can spare you one. Maybe it will help you put together a wonderful set!

More Instructions

(Gridania)
Bricot: My name's Bricot! Jihli's letting me help with the eggs! …That is, if they weren't all stolen.
You're going to get our eggs back, aren't you, miss? Then I can help! I know a lot of secret egg stuff, and I'm ready to share!
(What do you want to know about? The secret ring)
Bricot: The secret ring? Oh, uhm, right. So, sometimes, when you bring back a set of eggs, you get a decorated ring in return. And no, I can't tell you the combination of eggs you need, because I'm not allowed!
…But, uhm, if you do find out, tell me, okay?
(The secret egg set)
Bricot: Jihli has all kinds of presents, apart form the rings. Some of them are special gifts that change every day, and you only get them for special kinds of egg combinations.
(The secret egg)
Bricot: Urm, don't tell Jihli or anything, but I've actually been working on a special egg all on my own. It's called a motley egg.
It's got a picture of Radcliffe on it. My mum told me stories all about him. Radcliffe the Red, that was his full name, and he was the very first Archon. On my egg I drew him in fool's motley, just like in the story.
Anyway, you can use the motley egg to replace any other kind of egg. Say, if you wanted colored Archon egg for set, but didn't have one, you could use my motley egg instead! I made a few, and I'd let you use one, excpet…the stupid spriggans stole them along with the other eggs.
(The secret of the hatching pot)
Bricot: Do you see that weird pot over there? That's the hatching pot.
It's a magic pot, with spells cast on it to keep it warm all the time.
Why? Oh, well, uhm, it was because of the eggtrader. We get our eggs form the island of Thavnair. They're dodo eggs that haven't been farted- uhm, I mean, fertlizerated…? Something like that. Anyway, after they arrived, the merchant told us other eggs might have got mixed in with the unfart- uhm, regular ones.
No one knows what kind of creature the eggs might belong to, but Jihli said we should keep a hatching pot on hand to keep them warm, just in case.
Anyways, I really want to see what those eggs are. If you can find three of the mystery eggs and put them in the hatching pot, I'll give you a special reward!

Diggy: Spriggy egg! Twiiiggy egg! Painty egg! White gaaaaaate! Wooolfy gaaaaaaaaate!!! South! South! Soooooouth!
Diggy: Spriggy egg! Spriggy caaave! Emerald caaaaaaave! Mossy caaaaaaaaave!
Diggy: Spriggy egg! Color egg! Spriggy caaave! Tranquil caaaaaave!
Diggy: Spriggy egg! Painty egg! Spriggy gaaave! Humble caaaaaave! Hearthy caaaaaaaaave!

(Limsa Lominsa)
Fhlae: Name's Fhlae, and I'm helpin' the Dreamer here.
Ye goin' to help the good lady collect her eggs, are ye? I figured as much - when I first set yes on ye, I says to meself, now here's an egg-huntin' type, or me name ain't Fhlae.
(what do you want to know about? The secret ring)
Fhlae: That's right. When you brings back a set o'eggs, sometimes the good lady'll give ye a ring, all shiny like. I dunno what combination'll earn what, but if I was the bettin' sort, I'd wager there're hints hidden in town. Maybe.
(The secret egg set)
Fhlae: Course, there're other presents, too. The lady even gives out special gifts that change every day, dependin' on the combination of eggs - and yeah, that changes every day, too.
(The secret egg)
Fhlae: Want me to let ye in on a little secret? Well, ye minds that ye keep this under yer hat an' all, but I've been workin' on me own eggs in the evenin's - I'm not plannin' on bein' personal assistant to the Dreamer all me life - an' anyway, I mades this egg called the motley egg.
It's got a picture of Radcliffe on it - ye know, Radcliffe the Red, very first Archon and all that? Well, I like drawin' him in fool's motley; it's a bit of a specialty of mine…
So, anyway, this motley egg, right? It's really special, cos it can replace any other egg in a set. So if ye're misisn' that on egg to complete a combination, ye can toss in one of me motley eggs instead. If the bloody spriggans hadn't nicked the lot, that is.
(The secret of the hatching pot)
Fhlae: Ye sees that funny lookin' pot over there? That's the hatchin' pot.
It's for keepin' eggs warm,s o whatever's inside don't die or nothin'. Not sure how it works - magic I s'pose.
Thing is, we egg decorators, we gets our eggs from a merchant what brings 'em across the sea from Thavnair. Plain ol' lifeless dodo eggs, that's what we use. Well, accordin' to the story, the addlepated merchant went and delivered a bunch of live eggs mixed in with the dodo eggs.
No one knows where the eggs came from, or what they'll hatch into but it seems right cruel just to toss 'em, don't it? So we're keepin' them in the hatchin' pot.
If ye do comes across any odd eggs, bring 'em back and stick 'em in the pot. If ye manage to find three of 'em, I might sees me way to givin' ye a reward or summat.

Wiggy: Spriggy egg! Iggy egg! Iiiggy briiidge! South briiidge! Easty briiiiiiiiidge!

(Ul'dah)
Wadard: My name is Wadard. I serve the Dreamer.
So you've been asked to help find the spriggans and recover our stolen eggs? In that case, I don't mind sharing my egg-related secrets with you.
(what do you want to know about? The secret ring)
Wadard: One of the rewards offered in exchange for the eggs is a certain ring, and very beautiful it is, too. …No, I can't tell you which combination will win you the ring. But if you look around nearby, you might uncover a hint or two.
(The secret egg set)
There are other rewards besides, and some of them change very day. If you deliver the right combination of eggs on the right day, well, you might just earn yourself something special.
(The secet egg)
Wadard: The truth is, I do a bit of my own egg decoration on the side. I'm not bad at it, if I do say so myself.
You know about the very first Archon, Radcliffe the Red? Well, I like to draw him on an egg dressed up in his fool's motley, like in the stories. I call it the motley egg.
These motley eggs of mien, well, they're special - and not just because of how skillfully decorated they are. They can be used in place of any other egg, you see. I'd let you have one, but the miscreant spriggans made off with my collection.
(The secret of the hatching pot)
Wadard: So, do you see that strange-looking pot over there? We call it a hatching pot.
We get a thaumaturge to cast a spell on it so it stays hot no matter what the weather.
What's it for? Well, that's a bit of a long tale, but the merchant who supplies our dodo eggs - they're shipped in from the island of Thavnair and are supposed to be unfertilized - accidentally mixed in a bunch of fertilized eggs laid by something that definitely wasn't a dodo.
We don't know what might hatch out of them, but we felt responsible for the little things, so whenever we come across a warm egg we pop it into the hatching pot.
I'm juts dying to see those eggs hatch, so if you find any, bring them to me and we can put them in the pot. In fact, if you can find at least three, I'll give you a very nice present as a reward.

Figgy: Sprigg egg! Ziiiggy egg! Ziggy west! Black weeeeeest! Brushy weeeeeeeeest!

Figgy: Spriggy egg! Color egg! Spriggy caaave! Sunny caaaaaave! Horizon caaaaaaaaave!
Figgy: Spriggy egg! Painty egg! Spriggy caaave! Nophica caaaaaave! Watery caaaaaaaaave!
Figgy: Spriggy egg! Gloomy egg! Spriggy caaave! Copper caaaaaave! Ringy caaaaaaaaave!

Reward Time

(Gridania)
(I have decorated eggs to give you)
Jihli Aliapoh: With her strong hands, an egg did she grasp,♪
And grant it her warmth, for this was her task.♪

Thank you, adventurer. Here is the gift that was promised. We have many more where that came from, so please, bring more eggs if you find them!

(Limsa Lominsa)
(I have decorated eggs to give you)
Motte: With his strong hands, an egg did he grasp,♪
And grant it his warmth, for this was his task.♪

Why, thank you, adventurer. Here is the reward that was promised. I have lots of gifts to give away, so don't give up the hunt now. bring more eggs when you find them!
(already have the egg ring of the combo)
Motte: Oh, I had this lovely gift all ready for you, but you say you have one already? Well, never mind. Here's something else instead!
(odd egg combo)
Motte: Tsk. No, I'm sorry. This set isn't really what we…
Wait one moment! Now this is an egg I haven't seen before…
It doesn't belong to an apkallu, and certainly not a dodo - I've seen plenty of those in my time. Oh, it's a little warm…and did it just move!?
Well, whatever egg it is, we must keep it safe! Would you mind putting it in the hatching pot? It will stay nice and warm in there.

(when you've placed 3 odd eggs)
Fhlae: Cor blimey! Ye found three odd eggs, did ye? And ye put them in the hatchin' pot nice and safe, like?
Dunno what them eggs are goin' to hatch into, but wouldn't it be brill if they were dragons!? Imagine it, a pet dragon all of me own - that'd be summat else. I'm goin' to keep a nice, sharp eye on that hatchin' pot!
(obtain chocoobo egg ring)

(Ul'dah)
(I have decorated eggs to give you)
Kikina: With his strong hands, an egg did he grasp,♪
And grant it his warmth, for this was his task.♪

Thank you, adventurer. Here you go, just as I promised. There're lots more where that came from, too, so keep bringing those eggs as you find them!
(odd egg set)
Kikina: Hmmm. I'm not sure about this set. I don't think we have a present for a combination like this, and - wait one second, what is this?
It's not an apkallu egg, or a dodo egg, of that I'm sure, for I've seen them before. What's more, it's warm to the touch…and is something moving inside?
Well, whatever kind of egg it is, we have to keep it warm and safe, on't we? Could you put it in the hatching pot, over there? Thank you.

(when you've placed 3 odd eggs)
Wadard: Well played, adventurer, well played. That's three odd eggs in the pot!
Who knows what those eggs will hatch into? Personally, I'm crossing my fingers for dragons, but my lady says that isn't too likely. Stll, I can hope, can't I? Anyway, here's your reward, as promised.
(obtain chocobo egg ring)
