Scholar (学者 [gakusha] in Japanese) is a mage job of few appearances in Final Fantasies. They are a hybrid rather like Red Mage or Sage in that they can cast both White and Black Magic, and like the two others is restricted in how high-level spells they can cast. Scholars also have the added abilities of being easily able to determine enemy particulars such as HP and weaknesses.
Examples of scholars in the series are Hal in FF4 TAY and Adelheid Sturm and Gunther Schultz in FF11.
