Assassin

Assassin (アサシン [asassin] in Japanese) originates in the Tactics Advance line of games. The job closely resembles the Ninja and Sniper jobs in appearance as well as usability. They are speedy and very strong, but somewhat fragile. Looks-wise, the Assassin often comes wearing a face veil.

Tactics Advance

In Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Assassin is an advanced Viera-specific job, unlocked after learning two action abilities from Elementalist, and one from Sniper. Assassin gives the best speed growth out of any job in Tactics Advance, as well as decent strength and magic growth. Though their resistance is passable, their defense and HP are comparatively low, making them a bit of a glass cannon. And cannons, they definitely are - Assassins learn some of the most effective abilities in the game: Last Breath and Ultima Masher. Though Last Breath normally only has an around-60% chance of success (depending on positioning), it will have 100% success on sleeping enemies, so having a Red Mage cast (or doublecast!) Sleep ahead of time can make the work go even more quickly.

Equips

Assassins can wear Katanas, Greatbows, Hats, Clothing (ie, cloth, non-armor body garments), and any kind of accessories, including Ribbons.

Most Assassin abilities inflict status, with the exception of Last Breath and Ultima Masher, though Last Breath could be argued to inflict a "KO" status. Ultima Masher is the Viera's "Ultima" ability, and as such is one of the most powerful abilities in the game. Though Assassins can equip both Katanas and Greatbows, most abilities come from Katanas.

Stats

Assassins are quick, versatile units, good at traversing terrain and getting behind enemies, putting an end to them before they have a chance to move. Their stats specialize in speed, movement, and power.

Grimoire of the Rift

Assassins are slightly harder to unlock in Grimoire of the Rift than they were in Tactics Advance, as they require an actual quest - Veis, Assassin - in addition to the old requirement of learning two action abilities from Elementalist, and one from Sniper. Despite this further difficulty, they are not as stellar as they were in the previous game. Though still extremely fast, their speed is not the highest in the game anymore, as they are surpassed by Chocobo Knights, and their magical abilities took a bit of a plunge. They do, however, retain all their abilities, including Last Breath, though that too has a slightly lower chance of success. They are, however, still very much useful.

Equips

Almost just as before, Assassins can wear Katanas, Greatbows, Hair Accessories, Hats, Light Armors, and all accessories, including Ribbons.

Abilities

Assassin abilities remain virtually unchanged from Tactics Advance, with the exception of the removal of Killer Combo, as Grimoire of the Rift does not have combo attacks.
