Aside from the main language the Final Fantasy games are set in (for most of you English, for some others Japanese, other languages for yet others…and of course, with no guarantee that the people in the game speak that language in in-game terms), there are various ancient languages used throughout the series. This page aspires to give a presentation on them.
Final Fantasy I
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy XIV
Old High Sylphic
Very little is known about this language, even the when and where it was spoken. The only firm bit of information is that it was spoken by the sylphs of old. Very little is known about the language itself either, although it is used for one verse of Ramuh's theme song, and the FF14 staff kindly provided insight into the words and constructs used in that verse1.
What's known about the construction of the Old High Sylphic language is that it's highly context sensitive, words can have many different meanings depending on the context. It's also very dependent on pitch, to be more specific verb tense and pronouns are only represented by pitch.
