Cactuar (サボテンダー [sabotender] in Japanese), while regularly a monster, is also featured as a race of beastmen in some titles, and is a summon in others. There are also some cactuar bosses, notable among them, for example, Gigantuar. Cactuars are also featured elsewhere, such as in the name of Cactuar Jack, the national anthem of Galbadia - not to be confused with the boss monster Cactuar Jack.

Cactuars are known for their attack 1,000 Needles, which can be learnt by blue mages in some titles.
