Caravan Security

Caravan security is an additional activity in Final Fantasy XIV. You can participate once you've joined a Grand Company (Private Third Class or higher). Initially you'll only be able to join the escort duty of your own Company, but after completing the quest Don't Hate the Messenger you can join in on any escort duty.
Due to the nature of the activity, caravan security is also called 'chocobo escort' among the players.

Participation

A maximum of 8 players can join one Caravan Escort. A caravan will depart from each camp every 15 minutes (at :00, :15, and :45), and its approach is indicated by the Grand Company NPCs announcing it in Say chat. Once you've signed up at the Grand Company NPC, you need to head off to the caravan itself. The caravan will be visible from camp but a little ways off from it, and includes the caravan leader as well as three chocobos.

Once the caravan leaves, your job is to protect the chocobos from monsters that appear here and there along the route. There are two difficulty settings for this activity, and you get the higher-difficulty one at random. Whichever one you get, you lose a pack of cargo each time a chocobo runs away from the caravan, which happens when a monster has attacked a chocobo a couple times. You start at a maximum of 9 packs, and your reward is cut by a certain amount every two packs that you lose. See below for the reward details.

Once a chocobo has run away, you must run after it (it will stop a little ways off from the caravan) and use the various options to get it to return to the caravan. These are to 'calm it down' and to feed it something. The latter of these restores a chocobo's HP by a certain amount.
Each chocobo has their own likes and dislikes as to food items, and regain HP and degrees of calm by different amounts by what you decide to feed one. There is one exception, Gysahl Greens, which are liked by all chocobos.

The caravan will only continue on its way a little time after all chocobos are back in line. It is possible to lose the escort duty by not bringing back your chocobos quickly, or simply by letting them run away too many times. Once your caravan reaches the hamlet it is aiming for, the duty is over. You will be given your reward, and a chance to be transported back to the camp.

Please note that to be able to gain rewards from this activity, you must form a party with other participants that have enlisted in the same caravan and to participate in protecting the caravan. You will receive a warning at certain points of the escort if you haven't contributed enough to gain a reward at the end. If you do receive this warning please try to do more.

Info

For all the below, groups of enemies marked as 'Group' are enemies that spawn without doing anything specific. The groups marked 'Stop' however, have bonus enemies that spawn if you stop the caravan when the first mobs marked in that group appear. You will have to wait a while for them, but they net you extra reward seals at the end.

Rewards

With each successful caravan escorted to a hamlet, you gain some company seals as a reward for your efforts. This reward varies in size according to how well you did in your protection duty - that is, how many packs you managed to deliver intact. The rewards listed are for a successful escort duty, should you run out of time you'll get no reward at all.
It is also possible to gain extra rewards based on your performance in killing the mobs that appear (including bonus mobs). These are not listed below, but for level 45 caravan security runs you can gain a maximum of 1,000 seals.
